Beach Sound of Rushikulya

On April 7 I went to the beach of Rushikulya in Orissa to witness the hatching of Olive Ridley turtles. This recording is of the sound of the sea there, recorded at around 7/7.30 am. There is some amplification done and a little bit of equalisation to give the true effect of the sea. Used the internal stereo microphone of the recorder to record it.

High Tide at Henry's Island

Henry's Island is a popular tourist destination in coastal West Bengal. It's almost at the southern most tip of the state. We went there last 15th February for an extended weekend. I recorded this sound of high tide of the sea there.

Brook in a Malabar Jungle

During my stay in Goa's Bhagwan Mahavir WLS - 8th to 10th March, 2013 - I went on a short trek behind the Mahadeva temple in Tambdi Surla through the mountains. My guide and resort owner Pramod showed us the way. There were many small brooks and streams in that region. I recorded the gurgling sound of one of them.

Malabar Thunderstorm

In Goa's Bhagwan Mahavir WLS I stayed at Backwoods Camp. On the very first day there was a short thunderstorm that hit the area. With nothing else to do I recorded it and it turned out pretty well. While recording a thunderstorm it is a good idea to keep the input level low and be prepared for a lightning to strike.

The accompanying photograph above shows the exact spot where I stood to record the sound. This was done on 8th March 2013.

Bonnet Macaque Alarm Call

While in Goa's Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary (8th to 10th March 2013) I went hiking into the jungle behind the Mahadeva temple in Tambdi Surla with Pramod and two other German birders. A street dog accompanied us from the temple area.

Strangely, some bonnet macaques started making these alarm calls when they saw the dog, thinking it to be a wild dog. I found this quite strange. Later we saw the rotting skeleton of a deer that was killed by wild dogs some time back.
